Great British Railway Journeys – BBC 2

Michael Portillo’s last railway series saw him visit some rather exotic destinations, including Moscow and Jerusalem. This time, he’s in Scotland – possibly not as exotic, but equally interesting. He really does do a good job of these programmes, and he’s building in industrial heritage, medieval history, little-known local traditions, and all sorts.

My favourite episode so far was Thursday’s, when he visited Bannockburn, Pitlochry and the Queen’s View, where I went last autumn. Portillo has Scottish ancestry himself and is very enthusiastic about it all … although I’m not quite sure that he needed to put on a kilt. As ever, well worth watching!
